Gemäldegalerie Hands  2018

Are You Really Going to Stand This Close (Sandro Botticelli, ‘Madonna with Child and Singing Angels’)

Series of drawings, pencil on paper, 40 x 30cm.

Produced in-situ at the Gemäldegalerie in Berlin during an unoffical residency, each drawing is accompanied by a title alluding to the performative act of drawing within a public museum space. The hands have been selected and isolated from paintings within the museum's collection based on a perception of their evident communicative content (even if the precise meaning and function of the gestures remains obscure).

Almost No Thoughts Are Running Through My Head (Gian Domenico Ferretti, ‘The Liberation of St Peter’)

Fans of History (Anthony van Dyck, ‘Thomas François de Carignan, Prince of Savoy’)

If I Were Their Age Would I Look at Me and Think I Was Authoritative (Lucas Cranach the Elder, ‘Venus and Cupid the Honey Thief’)

Untitled (Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, ‘The Martyrdom of Saint Agatha’)
